84, 85 - Cold War City - A song about President Gorbachev's secret visit to London and how this changed the fate of the world. Until...

It was revealed over 20 years later that Gorbachev, the Russian President had secretly travelled to London to meet the Prime minister. This was 1984 when the cold war was in full swing and had been rolling since 1979. Three events followed this trip which was a fact find for both parties to get inside each other's minds.

1984 - Gorbachev secret visit to London

Careless Whisper and Two Tribes were in the music charts

The fear of nuclear war breaking out was real with the Frankie Goes To Hollywood video of 2 tribes showing a wrestling match between the then US President Ronald Reagan and the then Soviet leader Konstantin Chernenko

1985 - Gorbachev returned to Russia and ascended to become president.

The Power Of Love and Alive And Kicking are in the charts.

1985 - The cold war ended.

This was an interesting time because it was probably the last time the Russian Federation had enjoyed popularity and there was a wonderful mood at the time. The prospect of world peace seemed within grasp. This however was short lived. This amazing year of hope terminated with perhaps the biggest nuclear disaster the world has seen. Chernobyl.

1986 - Chernobyl.

Anyway lets get back to the hope part. Mairk has written a song about this optimistic time

'84, '85 - Cold War City which is available exclusively on Projektor Digital Indie Music Platform.
